The Contemporary Youth Orchestra received an award to support their concert and programming with Joan Tower, composer, performer, conductor and educator. Tower’s composition Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman has been dedicated to women who take risks and are adventurous. Recent events have placed a spotlight on the gender imbalance in the orchestral world. CYO’s 
goal is to spur consideration of gender equality by concert goers and inspired female concert members to understand that the glass ceiling is breakable.
