GLASS: HANDLE WITH CARE! THIS IS OUR PLANET: HANDLE WITH CARE!

Glass artist Christopher Morrison, of Bellington, Washington has been invited to create a gateway sculpture for the Arts & Leadership Summit.  The Summit’s focus is to resolve social and cultural challenges by integrating leadership and the creative process.

The predominate element of this installation will be of sculpted glass.  It will include an interactive component that invites viewers to state their intentions as how to weave art and stewardship into a sustainable movement. This data will be used to connect artists, leaders and stewardship-based organizations. These connections will increase the visibility of the challenges and solutions needed to protect to our planet.

Mr. Morrison’s signature piece will be  of clean clear glass that will be a threshold, architectural in nature and larger than life size. The stage floor will be glass block, pattered over the structural metal plates.  The two uprights and lentil will be constructed of molten glass, shaped to replicate building material. These will be bolted together and affixed to the base.  Two full- length mirrors will flank the threshold exposing ones reflection during the cross over.  Self- reflection will be a strong component within the artwork.  Next to the Threshold sculpture will sit a large glass crucible, containing glass scrolls filled with written intentions and QR codes connecting arts and leadership educators with stewardship-based organizations.  Mr. Morrison is consistently drawn to themes concerning our connection with the environment.  He interprets and promotes these relationships through his artwork.  Mr. Morrison’s vision compliments Puffin West’s Mission perfectly and we are so glad that he is a Puffling!
