HANDGUN MANDALAS INVOKE REFLECTION

The FBI defies MASS MURDER as a shooting where four or more people are killed. Matthew Mosher an Assistant Professor  at the University of Central Florida found the PULSE Nightclub shooting deeply troubling and began creating a series of works to address the topic of gun violence in the United States.  He calls this ongoing project SENTINEL.  His first sculpture in 2016 is comprised of 15,000 cast 9 mm cartridges, one for each person killed by gun violence in 2016!!!!  Here we see  a cast of handguns that form a mandala. Matthew Mosher has created a series of these mandalas that were inspired by the Tibetan sand mandalas, which are designed to invoke reflection and meditation  The number of handguns in these mandalas correlates to the number of people that were killed.  Our grant will help him complete a massive 69 gun mandala as that is how many lives were lost in Las Vegas.
