IN THIS TOXIC WORLD NON-TOXIC PRINTMAKING TELLS A STORY

One of the best friends Puffin West has met on its journey has been EUNICE KIM (www.eunicekim.net) You will remember her for her years of Nontoxic Printmaking at Cedar River Watershed a unique hybrid of art, education and, environmental activism. Projects took place at the Cedar River Watershed Education Center located in North Bend, WA. The 91,000-acre Cedar River Watershed is primary source of clean, safe drinking water for the greater Seattle area. Education Center on site welcomes thousands of visitors yearly and provides opportunities for the public to learn about complex issues surrounding the region’s drinking water, forests, and wildlife.  This project  produced a series of collagraphs via sustainable, nontoxic printmaking techniques.

Her 2020 project is entitled Nature Stories and the source and inspiration  of her non-toxic printmaking  is reclaimed wood  from an old barn she and her husband tore down on their rural studio grounds.  She immediately fell in love with the weathered surfaces of old growth timber that comprised the building.  Her technique has coaxed our narratives from the aged grains, knots, cracks and imperfections in the wood.  She calls this “meditation on seeing” that celebrate innate characteristic  on the intrinsic beauty  of reclaimed wood.
