The Innocence Project of Florida (IPF) has exonerated 14 men who collectively served 268 years for someone else’s crimes since 2003. Many more men and women languish in Florida prisons with little or no hope of obtaining their freedom. Annually the IPF processes 700 requests for assistance from inmates and their families and the project is currently litigating more then 3 dozen cases with hundreds more in various stages of review and investigation. The Puffin Foundation West grant will enable IPF to reproduce and distribute a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to raise statewide awareness of the work that they do. 45 television stations in Florida’s major metropolitan areas will be asked to show these PSAs. Having PSA broadcasts across the state could have significant impact of the public’s awareness of wrongful convictions and IPF’s efforts to undo them. The goal of Innocence Projects across America and in different countries around the globe is to insure justice for all. They help shed a light on the legal, social and political plight of society’s most vulnerable and disenfranchised citizens. This is very important work.
