PEARL MARKET GRANT A TRUE GEM!!!!!

 

 

The Puffin Foundation West grant of $5,500 to the SID Public Service Association, which operates and administers Pearl Market in Pearl Ally, is in part an open-air farmers’ market.  This grant has been responsible for helping $7,000 worth of fresh local foods make its way into households this season that use the Ohio Direction Card for government food assistance.  The Puffin West grant made every ten dollars has the buying power of twenty dollars.  With approximately 1200 subsidized housing units within one half mile of Pearl market and with close to 40% of these resident living below the federal poverty level, this grant helped to bring fresh from the garden local produce and foodstuff into these communities.  This also means that nearly $7,000 has made it into the homes of Ohio farmers and small business owner
