8000 students from  across the cities of Bloomington, Bedford, Ellettsville and Eastern Green, Indiana  as well students in rural southern  Michigan will all have on-site performances of  REIMAGINING OPERA FOR KIDS’ (ROK) production of THE DISCOVERY OF FIRE.  The Discovery of Fire is ROK’s   third for-kids commissioned opera which  features three dramatized fire origin myths being  from  the Lenape Tribe of North America,  the Chago people of Kenya  and the Ancient Greeks who tell the story of the Titan Prometheus defying the powerful Zeus and giving humankind the gift of fire. This performance brings to life the mythological world with live music, movement and song.   ROK will pair Discovery of Fire  with their own adaptation of with another myth-based story, DIDO and AENEAS  by Purcell. These   50 outreach performances take place at schools and community centers   and in communities where children do not regularly attend, or participate in, live music and theater performances.  ROK provides a critical tool for institutions and communities that face continued budget cuts and limits on arts programming.  BRAVO!!!
