This letter contains our report for the generous grant we received in support of Singing for Liberation: Beethoven’s Fidelio and Verdi’s Defiant Requiem.
The grant was originally awarded in 2019 for projects initially planned for 2020, but was then rolled over when the projects were delayed because of the pandemic. In accordance with the request from the Puffin Foundation West that funds only be used for remote activities as a result of the pandemic, we applied the grant funds only towards recordings and remote educational activities.

Singing for Liberation
Our performance of Beethoven’s Fidelio took place in May 2022 at the Finneytown Performing Arts Center, in collaboration with Amnesty International and the Ohio Innocence Project. We recently published our recording of Beethoven’s Fidelio on YouTube; it is rapidly attracting views internationally: https://youtu.be/UUP8paU_PcM
Our performance of Defiant Requiem in collaboration with the Holocaust and Humanity Center took place in October 2022 in the Rotunda of the Cincinnati Museum Center. The final video is still in post-production, but a short teaser from a rehearsal is visible here: https://youtu.be/3vJiGU844H8
In addition, the Holocaust and Humanity center shared the remote educational modules of the Defiant Requiem Foundation with thousands of educators in the network, reaching thousands of students with important lessons regarding the power of the arts to fight hate, which is sadly still a pressing issue decades after the Holocaust. https://education.defiantrequiem.org/
