SUMMER CAMP INSPIRES, ENGAGES, EDUCATES AND ENLIGHTENS

Through Puffin West’s continuing relationship with POWER2GIVE administered by the Greater Columbus Arts Council a grant award was given to ensure that some children this summer can go from being a spectator to a performing artist at the 2014 YMCA/Lincoln Theater Summer Camp Program. This program brings together children from summer programs all across the city to the Lincoln Theatre where they will meet professional musicians, actors and dancers. The kids will be introduced, inspired engaged, educated and enlightened each week by instructors from the Jazz Arts Group, CATCO  and Thisossane West African Dance Institute who will  teach  the  YMCA day camp children and show them a world they may have never seen, culminating with a weekly performance on the stage of the Lincoln Theater for family, friends and the community.

The program brings together 75 children per week to the Lincoln Theater near downtown Columbus. 
Operating June 23 – August 8, 2014, Monday – Friday from 9 am – 3 pm, the children will be introduced to a sampling of music, theater and dance on day one. Once the children have been exposed to the diverse art forms, they will then be given an opportunity to choose an area of focus for the remainder of the week. Their selection will immerse them in the history, techniques and background of their chosen area. They will acquire skills to perform the basics and increase their knowledge.
