ARTISTS IN SCHOOLS AND OUT OF SCHOOLS PROGRAMMING

Puffin Foundation West has given a grant that will be matched by the Greater Columbus Arts Council dollar for dollar.  This security-net grant was given to make-up for anticipated funding that did not come through to support three mainstay programs that the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education oversees:

-ARTIST IN SCHOOLS enables teachers to combine arts learning with learning in other core subject areas, such as English, social studies, science and math by bringing creativity into the classroom, not just the art room. Over 500 activities are scheduled for K-12 students, featuring artists in schools and out-of -chool venues.

-TRANSIT ARTS works with hundreds of young people, ages 12-21. The program also provides opportunities these youths to perhaps obtain paid positions, internships or apprenticeships or non-paid internships with arts and cultural businesses and institutions in the Columbus’ metropolitan area.  These young people have designed and produced public art exhibitions, open mics, dance programs and have preformed throughout the county with a variety of community partners.

ARTS IN THE HOUSE works with about 700 younger children ages 5-11 in our most challenging neighborhoods.  These children, who are in after school programs offered at Columbus’ Federation of Settlement Houses and other community organizations, get the opportunity to work with professional artists and their apprentices (often young people in the Transit Arts program) who work with them to develop a sense of personal responsibility by using their creativity which helps  build and boost their self-esteem and confidence.

If you can make a donation to OAAE it will also be matched by GCAC contact dcollins@oaae.net
