WHAT WEIGHS MORE THAN A TRILLION TONS?

Nouveau Classical Project , a contemporary music ensemble has commissioned William Mason to compose a new work for them entitled “Larsen C“. The Ensemble’s 2018 season will thematize climate change and climate justice and Larsen C, is  a poster child being part of a massive ice sheet in Antartica the size of Rhode Island,  that has broken off from the main ice sheet.  This iceberg weighs more than a trillion tons and is more than 200 m (700 ft.) thick.  Mason’s work of art is responding to this  calving of Larsen C into the sea and will be written for piano, flute, clarinet, violin, cello and percussion.  Environmental Justice issues are fundamentally social:  that the Project  and Mr. Mason have assembled themselves to address this issue through music is a personification of PFW’s Mission. Nouveau Classical Project performs in NYC.
